Straightforward Energy Analysis for End-Users

Energy Buying Strategies, Inc. (EBSI) works with commercial, industrial, and governmental consumers to help them manage the cost and volatility of their energy purchases. EBSI believes in simplifying the energy market so that customers can make informed decisions that fit their budget needs.

EBSI’s services are provided a la carte – customers can utilize EBSI for anything from a few hours of training on the energy marketplace to implementation of a comprehensive energy strategy.

Example EBSI Projects

Montgomery County (MD) Public Schools. EBSI assisted the school district in analyzing offers and interviewing RFP bidders for a 20-year solar power purchase agreement. The school district selected a winning solar services company and will be hosting solar installations that are among the largest in the Mid-Atlantic region on 3 to 7 of its schools at attractive prices beginning in 2008. Previously, EBSI provided assistance to the school district regarding its natural gas purchasing program.

Midwestern Auto Parts Company. EBSI has worked with an auto parts company to manage natural gas costs for five of its plants. This work has included the implementation of a straightforward gas purchase strategy, management of annual procurements, and establishment of stable day-to-day processes for coordinating gas deliveries to a plant that is not on a major local utility system. This work has helped the company maintain very stable energy costs despite overall market volatility.

Mid-Atlantic Life Sciences Company. EBSI has worked with a large life sciences company to bring its electricity and natural gas purchasing under a comprehensive plan. Together with client staff from several departments, EBSI helped to write a formal energy procurement plan and to implement that plan across several bid cycles. EBSI also built a detailed budget model, analyzed peak load response programs for the client, and identified cost savings opportunities in the company’s buildings. One of those cost savings, moving the company to the proper tariff rate with its electric utility, resulted in well over $1MM in savings over 10 years.

Mid-Atlantic Hospitality Company. EBSI prepared an electricity purchasing strategy that met the needs of a hospitality company with an unusual electricity load profile and implemented that strategy through multiple procurements. As with many clients, EBSI provides monthly, tailored energy market updates to this company. EBSI also introduced the company to a peak load response program that will bring annual savings and helped the company assess a solar power installation.
While EBSI relies heavily on historical data in its analyses, it is important to note that EBSI does not forecast prices nor guarantee future results, but only shows possible outcomes based on client assumptions, historical data, and futures prices.
